At the highly anticipated 2024 Busan Motor Show scheduled for June, Hyundai is poised to unveil its latest groundbreaking innovation: the Ioniq 7, a flagship electric three-row SUV. Following the success of its predecessors, the Ioniq 5 electric crossover and the Ioniq 6 electric sedan, the Ioniq 7 is expected to continue Hyundai’s streak of excellence in the realm of dedicated electric vehicles.
With its debut, Hyundai aims to further solidify its position as a trailblazer in sustainable mobility. Notably, the Ioniq 5 has already made waves in the Indian market, setting a high bar for the forthcoming Ioniq 7. As anticipation mounts, enthusiasts eagerly await the unveiling of this remarkable addition to the Ioniq family, poised to redefine the standards of electric SUVs.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6, which competes with the Tesla Model 3, was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo in India just over a year ago, and it could be introduced soon. Production of the next Hyundai Ioniq 7 will commence in the brand’s home country of South Korea around the same time as its global debut. It is planned to be available next year from Hyundai’s facility in Georgia, United States.
Hyundai supplies the Ioniq 5 in India through the CKD process, therefore it is competitively priced against its brother and primary competition, the Kia EV 6. With Kia intending to launch the EV9 three-row electric SUV in India later this year, the Hyundai Ioniq 7, which shares many similarities with the EV9, could enter our market in the future years.
The Ioniq 7 has been road-tested on foreign land for some time now, and the appearance appears to be significantly influenced by the Seven concept, which was unveiled at the LA Auto Show in late 2021. The spy photographs hint that the front and back lighting systems, roofline, and overall dimensions will be similar to the concept version, but we’ll have to wait and see.
It will be based on the same E-GMP skateboard platform as the EV9. The battery packs and electric motors could also be borrowed, although with small capacity and output differences. The standard model might use a single e-motor capable of 218 PS, while the dual electric motor arrangement should allow for a combined power output of 585 PS.
It will have 21-inch wheels and an exterior with a low centre of gravity and drag coefficient. It will feature a huge touchscreen and digital cluster, Level 3 ADAS, and much more. In the EV9, the 76.1 kWh battery pack provides a driving range of 370 km, while the bigger 99.8 kWh battery pack provides a range of 489 km under the EPA test.
The Hyundai Ioniq 7, expected in 2024, is a mid-size electric SUV designed to revolutionise family travel. Built on the same chassis as the Ioniq 5, it has a roomy, lounge-like interior with the option of swivelling seats and plenty of legroom. Design clues from the Seven Idea suggest future aspects such as adjustable pixel lighting and a panoramic glass canopy. While official specifications are yet to be disclosed, rumours include a driving range of over 250 miles and ultra-fast charging capabilities.
